May 7, 2024 · TAKES GOOD TEAM WORK !! slowly push the wooden handles in from both sides same time. hoping piece is large enough one pushes on broken piece while other holds just enough tension against it . basically sandwich the broken piece between two handles. if successful , put broken piece in place against axle determine just how much is missing.

Dec 8, 2009 · Take out the axle on the opposite side and insert a long piece of pipe or round stock and push the broken piece out of the side gear. I made a "trough" out of a piece of angle iron with a long rod welded to it which is first inserted into the axle tube on the "broken axle" side to catch the broken piece as it is pushed out of the side gear.

If there IS an "open" inter-axle differential in there, then a broken front drive should just allow the front driveshaft to spin and do nothing. In that case (with everything intact), if you jack up ANY wheel and put it in gear, that wheel would spin all day without the truck moving.

May 11, 2017 · I forgot to say i have seen a few broken and i myself think it may have been air pressure problem.I know each axle design uses differnt pressures but like said that sound to be excess pressure for 7000 lbs.To find out it needs to be put on scales and axled out to find proper air pressure. &0 pls may b good for 13000 lbs.

Mar 27, 2019 · From doing that same job just a few times I just replace the complete cap. Especially if the truck has seen road salt. Not saying 100% failure, but try to get those screws broken loose first. Don't think I've ever paid over $30.00 for a Stemco cap complete myself for a Mack steer axle. Even the old 5025 style.

Feb 9, 2024 · having left/ right hand thread would be older style budd wheels having inner and outer nuts. square socket for inner "nut" ; 1 1/4 ?socket for outer nut. progress to uni-mount nuts all were right hand thread. seems majority of post now point to same thing ;;;if we only had that magic crystal ball back then !! what was thought to be common items then are obsolete now in such a short time.

Aug 22, 2022 · About a month ago I thought I'd broken an axle coming out of the query because I heard a loud snap and when I tried to put it in gear it wouldn't engage. I pulled all 4 axles out and none were broken. I put them back in and everything was back to normal.
