Sep 9, 2012 · I have a 1985 Bridgestone MB-1, every last part on it is original (even the tires, heh). Frame 19". Paint has a few nicks, but bike was obviously not used for much mountain biking. I did some research on asking price, someone on another forum posted his at $600 shipped, is that unreasonable? His was an '87..

Apr 24, 2024 · So, I am looking at a 1986 Bridgestone MB-1 which someone is offering for sale. The frame is my size, the bike is fitted with Suntour XC derailleurs, Cyclone hubs, a 3x5 driveline with a Sakae FX crank set. The bike looks original except for the Rolls saddle. The components all seem to match what is shown in the ‘86 catalog.

Kinda like my Hookoo Ekoo was a very rare one in XL size but this one is going to have the XT 780T 30 speed drivetrain, 26 inch wheels allow much faster acceleration than 29 inch wheel. Regarding Bridgestone MTBs, they are a scarcity regarding in L, XL size.

I am honestly not sure which I would rather put money and time into. Any opinions? Both frames are in good condition, but both lack original parts, so I would be putting new ones.

Are you using the MB-1 offroad? Common during the time that was made were locknuts with setscrew to really lock them. And shorty 32mm wrenches that fit in a jersey pocket for frequent readjustment of the headset. Most who used early MTBs for the intended purpose changed out the OEM headset quickly.

Aug 14, 2012 · The MB-1 also used an eclectic but highly effective component line-up, e.g. Suntour Cyclone hubs (I think I still have wheels stashed away somewhere and I still use the Suntour XC pedals on one of the bikes). If memory serves me correctly, the advert tag line was, "the mountain bike for malcontents" and it definitely was.
