Aug 2, 2019 · Bonsai pots are in my future and I have 4 local nurseries and 2 specialty stores that want just about anything I can make, but it has been on the back burner as I have been liquidating inventory from my antique business over the past several years. This winter I really need to give myself a swift kick in the ass and get busy. Thanks to all.

Mar 4, 2024 · There are no advantages or disadvantages to either, comparatively, only aesthetics and personal taste. There are some who still believe the myth that unglazed pots "breathe" or allow moisture to move through the interior to the exterior of pot walls because of porosity in the clay, while glazed pots can't do that because the glaze blocks it.

Jul 29, 2016 · I appreciate the art of Bonsai pots and maybe appreciate the prices, but again, and IMO, its feels soooo nice when you say "100%, this design is by me!" maybe its vain, but I also like to create. Someday it would be wicked cool to buy an ancient pot( meaning the very old ones), but then I probably wouldn't have a retirement.

Jun 18, 2015 · Any kind will do. I've used veggie oil, WD-40, and mineral oil. Cleaning and oiling the pots on a regular basis will keep the pots looking good while preventing calcium deposits and will also help patina to develop.

Many high-end Japanese bonsai are displayed in pots that are worth more than the tree! It is ok when starting out with beginner trees to use beginner pots.
