Jack finally encounters Ryan for the first and last time in a scene during which Ryan proves that Jack has been a slave under the control of Atlas the entire time, saying "A man chooses, a slave obeys".

Jack was born around 1956 as the illegitimate son of Rapture's ruler Andrew Ryan and his mistress Jasmine Jolene. An audio diary by Jolene, and photos found on Ryan's desk, indicate that Jack was purchased by Brigid Tenenbaum on behalf of Frank Fontaine as an embryo.

The writers could have had Ryan fake his own death to outdo Fontaine in a "con" and then once Atlas was exposed and located, as the parasite spewed his ego bragging. Ryan could then simply isolate the miscreant and turn off his power and air and leave him to die in the cold and darkness.

Jack Ryan [1] is the protagonist of BioShock, whom the player controls throughout the game. He is a young Caucasian male and prior to his unwilling arrival in Rapture, he was a passenger on an airplane that crashed near the lighthouse that provided entry to the underwater city.
