The Birmingham Institute of Forest Research (BIFoR)
The Birmingham Institute of Forest Research (BIFoR) at the University of Birmingham is dedicated to advancing our understanding of how forests respond to environmental changes. Our four key areas: BIFoR FACE
The Birmingham Institute of Forest Research (BIFoR)
The Birmingham Institute of Forest Research (BIFoR) is a world-leading centre in the understanding of how forests react to the combined threats of climate change and invasive pests or diseases.
About the Birmingham Institute of Forest Research (BIFoR)
The Birmingham Institute of Forest Research (BIFoR) at the University of Birmingham is dedicated to advancing our understanding of how forests respond to environmental changes. Established in 2014, BIFoR conducts cutting-edge research on the impacts of climate change, invasive species, and other environmental stressors on forest ecosystems.
BIFoR FACE - University of Birmingham
BIFoR FACE represents a significant advancement in forest research, being the second generation of forest Free-Air Carbon dioxide Enrichment (FACE) sites. It focuses on mature oak forests, scaling up from earlier experiments on young plantations to understand the impact of increased atmospheric CO2.
BIFoR - Birmingham Institute of Forest Research
The Birmingham Institute of Forest Research (BIFoR) is a virtual institute of over 100 academics, primarily from the schools of Geography Earth and Environmental Sciences and Biosciences but also including members from Mathematics, Engineering, the Business School, International Development, Psychology, English, and elsewhere.
BIFoR is focussed on addressing two major challenges: the impact of climate and environmental change on woodlands, and the resilience of trees to invasive pests and pathogens.
BIFoR World Forests - University of Birmingham
Our research at BIFoR includes forest dynamics, ecology, hydrology, biodiversity and biogeography and paleobotany.

Ongoing research at BIFoR FACE - University of Birmingham
Research now underway both at BIFoR-FACE and the Wolfson Advanced Glasshouses among a country-wide sites. Led by Dr Estrella Luna Diez (University of Birmingham) with Dr Marco Catoni, Dr Adriane Esquivel Muelbert, Dr Scott Hayward, and Prof. Rob MacKenzie).
BIFoR will be an internationally leading Institute that will address fundamental and interrelated challenges: 1. The impact of global change on forest ecosystems 2. The resilience of trees to invasive pests & diseases 3. The importance of trees and forests to humans and non-humans funded Our research in four key themes: 1.
