May 5, 2013 · Actually, lots of people on this forum successfully keep shrimp with their bettas, including myself. The most recommended shrimp are Red Cherry Shrimp, but they can get expensive, Amano shrimp are cheaper and are great algae eaters, and I've got Ghost shrimp which are omnivores and great all around cleaners, but they tend to be a little aggressive which I why I'm switching to Amanos soon.

I know if you're going to put shrimp with a Betta, you usually just hear about ghost shrimp and cherry shrimp. But what about other types of freshwater shrimp? What size are Blue Velvet shrimp normally?

Aug 20, 2012 · I do have Darwin Algae Shrimp (sort of like ghost shrimp in size) with my wild bettas and after a week of being picked on they are pretty much left alone now. If I had a less aggressive betta splendens and wanted more permanent shrimpy tank mates, I'd probably go with larger varieties of shrimp like ghosts or the Darwins and see how those went.

Apr 16, 2015 · There are shrimp that, as juveniles, look like Ghosties. Suppliers of PetSmart, et. al., send the wrong shrimp and there it goes. True Ghost Shrimp cannot do the damage some claim. But Red Claw can and they look almost exactly like young Ghosties. What's funny is the neatest, least aggressive shrimp are the Vampire Shrimp and other filter feeders.

To help assure a stress-free shrimp habitat tanks should be stable which means a minimum of 2-3 months past cycling and heavily planted. There should be some sort of Betta-proof hide for the shrimp to molt as that's when they are the most vulnerable.

Mar 31, 2011 · My shrimp was a true ghost shrimp and it still nipped and hung off my betta.(made a post here with photos of it because I was worried it wasn't) Of course it died a few days later..so I believe they may have been sick when I bought them...They all died one by one..besides one..I only have one left in my 10 gallon and he is a nice little guy.
