Bayport is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Hernando County, Florida, United States. The population was 43 at the 2010 census. [4] The village of Bayport, located at the mouth of the Weeki Wachee River, sprang up in the early 1850s [5] as a supply and cotton port.

Bayport Park has recently undergone a major renovation and expansion, transforming the former 1.5-acre park into a 7-acre haven on the Gulf of Mexico. Located at the end of State Road 50 west, this park offers a variety of amenities, including picnic tables, pavilions, barbecue grills, fishing pier and two boat ramps.

Bayport Park showed up on google maps as the most convenient access - about 7 miles from the spring. Turns out that Bayport is a historic Civil War battle site. Plaques describe the local war history, as well as post war and even prehistoric times here.

Bayport Park was originally a 1.5 acre historic park developed in the 1950's by Hernando County. In 1999 the park was expanded with an additional 10 acres owned by the Southwest Florida Water Management District.
