The Flume is a natural gorge extending 800 feet at the base of Mount Liberty. The walls of Conway granite rise to a height of 70 to 90 feet and are 12 to 20 feet apart. The Flume Trail is a 2-mile loop starting at the check-in booths located in front of the Flume Building.

The Basin and the flume gorge are not together. The basin has its own exit off of 93 with its own free parking and a short walk. At the flume you do pay a fee to enter the park and trail to the flume but parking there is free.

Flume Gorge Trail: This is the main and most popular trail at Flume Gorge Basin. It’s a 2-mile loop trail that takes you through the stunning Flume Gorge, where you’ll encounter wooden walkways, waterfalls, and scenic views.

(north & southbound) The Basin is a large granite pothole that was created by a glacier more than 15,000 years ago. This stop features walking paths to the Basin (ten minute walk), picnic tables and an entrance to Franconia Notch State Park.

Sep 8, 2016 · Moving south from The Basin, you will come to one of Franconia Notch’s main attractions; the Flume Gorge. This 2-mile self guided nature walk will lead you through covered bridges and numerous water features. The most spectacular waterfall at the Flume is the Avalanche Falls.

A short distance downstream of The Basin is the Baby Flume. This 6-foot waterfall splashes its way through a narrow and short but attractive flume. In previous editions of this guide, hiking to Lonesome Lake from the Basin-Cascades Trail was recommended.
