Baby foxes are usually white, gray, or black, depending on the species. Red fox pups are charcoal-gray or black at birth, but they change color after the first shedding. There are 23 species of foxes, and each species can have multiple colors thanks to color mutations.

Arctic Fox Babies. Arctic foxes have much larger litters than red foxes. They can have anywhere from 8-14 kits per litter. Arctic foxes are born at a different time of year than red foxes. Their mating season starts from April until July, and the kits are born around August.

When baby foxes are born they can’t see, hear, or walk and rely heavily on their mother to survive for the first three weeks. Their eyes don’t open until 9 days after they are born and their senses will start to develop after 2 weeks.
