Dec 14, 2008 · To me, the SG-1 pronunciation makes more sense, but only in that it fits better into pronouncing Ba‘al Zebûb in the most common manner. Bear in mind that 'Ba'al' on its own simply means 'lord', and beign a fairly common word was almsot certain to be subject to variation.

Sep 13, 2017 · Yes, there can be occasional exceptions that don't follow any rule, but since this is an imaginary word whose pronunciation we're trying to deduce, that's where the rules are useful for figuring out the most likely pronunciation. Exceptions are, by definition, unlikely.

Nov 18, 2008 · That's a myth. Both pronunciations are common enough to get in a dictionary, but the YOOR-uh-nus pronunciation is based on the original Greek and Latin. It's the original, more technically accurate pronunciation, and the idea that it's an invention of joke-avoiding pedants is merely folk etymology.
