The red light of death appeared on the dash 18 months later & I took it to my independent mechanic. The codes stated it was a camshaft problem & he did some repairs.

Feb 22, 2017 · Hi, on a recent weekend trip my 2016 50i went from warning oil low to oil below low refill now with two quarts, at just 4300 miles! I did some searching and it seems this is a common issue, several older threads, a consumer reports study, BMW stating a quart per 900 miles, and there is a class action lawsuit against BMW, and other manufacturers.

I got an X5 50i on 3/1/16. It had 65k miles. Clean carfax, prior owner took care of it. Looks and appears to have been well maintained by the BMW dealership. It came with the BMW trailer tow kit which is what sold it. I looked for a Toyota 4-Runner in that same price range but the Toyotas were priced high for late model used.
