How unreliable are N62’s, better or worse than N63’s : r/BMW
Jul 17, 2022 · There was a class action lawsuit that saw BMW settle with OG N63 owners, as well as BMW introducing revised variants of the N63 under the TU badge. TU engines are significantly better than the OG N63s. Ideally, if you're looking at a V8 powered BMW, try and find one with a TU engine. Only get a N62 if you are after BMWs of yesteryear.
okay so how bad are n62s really? : r/BmwTech - Reddit
The one major cooling system issue is the coolant pipe that runs the center of the block. Coolant pipe on the cheap side is 1200-1500 and done the BMW way 5-7k. The coolant pipe is not as common as on the OG N62. Transmission is good for 150-200k miles properly maintained. All that being said though they are one of the toughest engines BMW made.

Sep 8, 2015 · Done my research on the N62.. alternator bracket gasket, valley coolant tube and valve stem seals being the biggest problems that I can find.. mechatronic seals on the autos, as well. Don't so much mind the wrenching as the parts seem to be pretty inexpensive, just incredibly labor intensive (alternator bracket gasket job I would most want to ...

Is a n62b48 better or worse than a n54b30 regarding reliability?
May 18, 2022 · n62 is gonna be vastly more fun. but they require a lot of maintenance, just a ton of oil and coolant leaks, plus the valve stem seals like to fail as well. all of this costs an arm and a leg to replace. you can take care of the gaskets and valve stem seals by doing very frequent oil changes. I keep the interavls on my 545i at 6-7000 kms.
I just wanted to make a post about N62s and blue smoke from
Feb 5, 2022 · Great post. The N62 has a bad reputation based only on valve stems. The engine is strong otherwise. I would say it is best N/A BMW V8. Plenty of examples over 200k, unlike the N63. I’ve had the valve stem issue for quite some time, using oil additive and it …

BMW used - STAY AWAY. BMW old - STAY AWAY. BMW new, old or in between - STAY AWAY because of regular scheduled maintenance costs and repairs. S-T-A-Y A-W-A-Y. Let someone else suffer this pig. "No warranty" says everything you need to know, beside it being an old BMW. Maintenance history means nothing here.
M60, M62, N62 oil consumption : r/BmwTech - Reddit
Nov 4, 2022 · N62 engines produce very little manifold vacuum as it is due to BMW’s valvetronic system keeping the throttle plate open at all times. The slightest, minuscule vacuum leak can cause the diaphragms to stay open, thus sucking liquid oil from each valve cover straight into the intake manifold to be burned off.
Can anyone help, N62 oil leak : r/BmwTech - Reddit
Oct 11, 2023 · The N62 in the 545i doesn’t have an oil cooler and the ports are blocked by a bracket with a tiny gasket sandwiched between it and the block. The bracket has the alternator bolted to it. It’s a decent sized job, but can be done DIY somewhat easily using the driver side wheel area for access.
