The BMD-2 is a Soviet airborne infantry fighting vehicle, introduced in 1985. It is a variant of BMD-1 with a new turret and changes to the hull. BMD stands for Boyevaya Mashina Desanta (Боевая Машина Десанта, which literally translates to "Airborne Combat Vehicle"). [1]

In 1981, the war has dragged on for two years already when units started to receive the new BMP-2 IFV, a welcome addition with its 30 mm 2A42 multi-purpose autocannon. It has the high elevation angle required, range, power and rate of fire to match insurgents.

The BMD-2M is a Tier 7 progression Armored Fighting Vehicle under Marat Shishkin 's dealership. Faced with a serious funding shortage, the Russian Airborne forces (VDV) were forced to start upgrading a portion of their obsolete BMD-2 IFVs with a new "Bereg" combat module, featuring modern FCS with thermal imaging and a new Kornet-M ATGM launcher.

The main feature of this modernization was that the modernized vehicles should receive the Bereg one-man turret with updated weapons.
