As part of the BBC’s broadcaster-wide rebrand on 20 October 2021, BBC Two introduced a new logo, though the Curve idents from September 2018 will remain with some modifications. Trade test colour films were broadcast by the television network BBC2 in the early days of colour television in Britain during the long periods of the daytime when no regular programming was scheduled, with the exception of Play School.

Apr 28, 2021 · By late-1967, BBC Two colour broadcasts were available in the south west, south east and east of England as well as south Wales. A more substantial colour programme service was in place by December 1967, covering over three-quarters of the BBC Two schedule.

Station ID: Three dots, coloured green, red and blue respectively, appear on a black background. They shrink and merge into one white dot just above the centre of the screen. A blue " 2 " is then drawn around the dot, and when it is completed, the word "COLOUR", in white, appears below.

Leading the chromatic charge, BBC2 became the pioneer, launching its colour broadcasts on July 1st. This milestone was accompanied by a brand-new identity, marking the debut of the UK’s very first colour ident. Thus, British TV traded its monochrome past for a future awash in glorious hues.

In 1967, BBC2 was the first UK television station to launch a full colour service on the UHF frequency band, and to mark the occasion a new symbol was launched. However, there is some confusion as to when the symbol was actually launched.

As the late 1960s rolled around, BBC2 underwent a visual facelift that was anything but subtle. The channel’s signature symbol evolved into a sleek, mechanical marvel. While the original cube-based concept was preserved, the ‘2’ logo traded its multicolour wardrobe for a singular, eye-catching shade of blue.

Colour comes to BBC2 in the late 1960s, along with a change of identity. So British TV got its first ever colour ident – where else have we seen those lightspots, I wonder(!)
