Atrioventricular Re-entry Tachycardia (AVRT) is a form of paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia that occurs in patients with accessory pathways, usually due to formation of a re-entry circuit between the AV node and accessory pathway. ECG features depend on the direction of conduction, which can be orthodromic or antidromic.

Atrioventricular reentrant tachycardia (AVRT) occurs in two types: orthodromic and antidromic (illustrated in Figure 3). In orthodromic AVRT the re-entry impulse circulates in antegrade direction through the atrioventricular node. In antidromic AVRT the impulse travels in retrograde direction through the atrioventricular node.

AVNRT and AVRT Arrhythmias caused by a surplus conduction circuit between atrial and ventricular anatomy. They cause the normal electrical circuit to allow an impulse to repeatedly travel around the normal AV node and this new connection.
