A few years ago, after one of my sons completed a Degree in Environmental Science, I became interested in the collection of Conservation, Fisheries, National Parks and then ANARE cloth patches. I learnt that for every season at Mawson, Casey, Davis or Macquarie Island a dated commemorative patch was produced and then issued to team members.

The ANARE Club was formed in 1951 so members of the Australian National Antarctic Research Expeditions (ANARE) could stay in touch and celebrate their shared experiences. ANARE was run from 1947 by the Australian Antarctic Division and is now called the Australian Antarctic program based in Tasmania.
