It is the egg from ALIEN. It’s artistic licence, they used a smooth egg because it looks better for the posters/advertising. If they used the egg with the opening on top it wouldn’t have been as aesthetically pleasing. Kinder surprise.

Alien Resurrection also points to there being no egg inside a host but that could be explained away by the genetic mix of Ripley and the Queen. An egg inside the host makes no sense anyway. A membrane to protect from host immune cells and that's it.
