The ALCO FA is a family of B-B diesel locomotives designed to haul freight trains. The locomotives were built by a partnership of ALCO and General Electric in Schenectady, New York, between January 1946 and May 1959.

This group is about all American Alco diesel locomotives and Canadian or foreign designs. Older Alco FA, RS, and switchers are now allowed here. Scale models are allowed.

The FA-1/FB-1, which featured a 1,500 horsepower rating, was built from January 1946 to October 1950 with a 1,600 hp version produced between March and August 1950 (many early models were subsequently upgraded to 1,600 hp).

The Reading's Alco FA-1/FB-1 locomotives arrived on the property in June, 1948. Designated class DF-3 and numbered 300A/B through 305A/B, and were delivered in the same black/green/yellow paint scheme as the Reading's EMD FT cab units.

Rapido is happy to announce the next in our series of classic ALCo locomotives, the ALCo FA-1 and FB-1. Between January 1946 and October 1950 a total of 440 FA-1s and 240 FB-1s were built by ALCo and their Canadian subsidiary, Montreal Locomotive Works (MLW).
