Dec 21, 2008 · I then noticed that 2 branches on the bottom of the tree (closest to the soil) had stuff growing on them (black and brown dots). I think these are scales. The tree has responded well to regular fertilizer and produced robust leaf growth. This season has been very poor. The tree is not producing fruit. I have seen one flower all summer.
