To prepare customers, the Alaska Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) has created an interactive checklist to provide you with the documents you will need to apply for a Alaska REAL ID driver license or ID card. Follow the steps indicated on the top of each page.

To apply for a REAL ID card, you must present one primary document, which shows your date of birth, true full name, identity and U.S. citizenship or lawful status. Select a document that has your current full legal name (first, middle and last). An original document or certified copy is required.

On May 7, 2025, U.S. travelers must be REAL ID compliant to board domestic flights and access certain federal facilities. The Alaska Real ID is not mandatory for Alaskans with a non-commercial license.

In order to get your Alaska ID card, you must bring documents to verify your name, lawful status, and physical address. You must also provide your social security number or a letter showing ineligibility. Complete a D1 application, bring documents, and fee for REAL ID card.
