Feb 8, 2009 · At long last, my Akubra Capricorn straw hat has arrived from Australia. Since there have been many inquiries about this hat on the Lounge, I thought I might add my $.02. I ordered it from Everything Australian . I have ordered from them once before and have received good service. The order was placed on 1-22-09 and was received on 2-6-09.

Sep 14, 2009 · The 1/4” drill was too large, and the 15/64” drill fit easily into each of the four vents. From this I concluded that Akubra is using 6 mm grommets in the vents. In exchange for this priceless bit of information, I would appreciate it if someone would measure the vents in their Riverina, or any other Akubra “three-holer”.

Feb 6, 2013 · Akubra have traditionally made street hats, e.g. fedoras, trilbies. "Western" style hats started in the late 70's (at least that is when I first noticed them). I use the factors I listed above (cleanliness, tags) to estimate the age.

Mar 11, 2015 · Comparing the two hats. The Cattleman has better sun protection with the flat brim. The Cattleman has a larger crown, It can sit lower on your head then the Snowy River. I think the felt is thinner as well. All the Akubra hats I have seen with bound brims (Cattleman, Military, Coober Pedy) I think have thinner felt.

Mar 7, 2012 · So I'm thinking its time to buy myself a proper hat. I wear hats often as I have little hair left on my head (I'm 30, genetics!), but mostly just beanies or Tilleys. I'm quite taken with Akubra's Lighting ridge in sand but am not sure quite how it would look. Pictures on the web show it to be anywhere from a light cream to completely white.

Jan 12, 2013 · Hi Brian. If you search the Akubra overload thread you will find a wealth of information. Akubra uses two grades of felt. Imperial is the lower of the two. That having been said, their Imperial quality is among the best quality you can buy in a modern production hat. Their Heritage felt presumably contains a higher percentage of wild hare.

Jan 21, 2008 · In fact, Akubra has been around a lot longer than that. The actual hatmaking business that would become Akubra started in 1874, and the Akubra name was adopted in 1912. So, they've been around a loooooooong time.
