Das Erste, meaning The First, is the flagship channel of German public-broadcasting consortium ARD, and the oldest TV channel in Germany. On October 1, 1984, ARD introduced a new logo accompanied by the first CGI ident broadcast on German television.

ARD (short for Arbeitsgemeinschaft der öffentlich-rechtlichen Rundfunkanstalten der Bundesrepublik Deutschland) is a group of nine regional public broadcasters that serve the whole of Germany. This logo is still used in Tatort's main title sequence.
