It's hard to say if they're better than the Variations in terms of sound, given that I returned the Variations already, but with the high boost filter (closest to Harman and the Variations according to Crinacle's measurements) they're certainly at least as good as the Truthears.

Nov 1, 2022 · AKG and Harman recently have big deals on N5005 at 199 bucks, and I went blind for one. Everything is fine except no matter which filter I use, the texture of its sound is so plastic and when you hear the detail of music, my ears also suffer from some filling like coarse texture.

IMO these are pretty much end game IEMs. They come with really good cables...a balanced set and a single-ended (normal) set which includes a mic and playback controls for either iOS or Android. Also comes with a very high-quality BT adapter, 4 different SQ filters, and a crapload of different ear tips.

Sep 14, 2022 · Sound IMO goes AKG N5005 -> AKG N400NC -> Truthear -> AirPods Pro v1. They're also the second-best value - N400NC was purchased when Harman marked them all the way down to $47. One advantage of Truthear over N400NC is Truthear can get a good bit louder when driven from the MBP (and presumably any halfway decent external box).
