The 90 mm gun M1/M2/M3 was an American heavy anti-aircraft and anti-tank gun, playing a role similar to the German 8.8cm Flak 18. It had a 3.5 in (90 mm) diameter bore, and a 50 caliber barrel, giving it a length of 15 ft (4.6 m).

This high velocity armor piercing cartridge is designed for use in 90mm guns against armored targets. The projectile contains a hard armor piercing core of tungsten carbide steel in an aluminum alloy outer body.

The M3 was a scarily powerful gun that could penetrate 9 inches of armour at 1000 yards – when using APFSDS (armour piercing fin stabilised discarding sabot).

This cartridge is for use against armored targets. The projectile consists of a steel base with an integral rotating band. A tracer is also fitted into the base. The body is of aluminum and has a steel bourrelet press fitted to it.

One 90mm gun could put 20 to 25 rounds in the air every minute, so a complete battery of four guns firing at an aircraft could put a lot of steel on target. Peak deployment of the 90mm gun...

The 90mm Armor Piercing Shot T33 is issued as a fixed complete round for the Gun, 90mm, M3 mounted in Heavy Tank, T26E3 and Gun Motor Carriages, M36 and M36B1. The shot is a modification of the standard AP, M77 which has been reheat-treated and to which a ballistic windshield has been attached.

For example I looked at the history of the 602d Antiaircraft Artillery Gun Battalion (Semimobile) which used the 90mm and it discusses aircraft claims, pilotless aircraft claims (PAC) and even mentions the Battalion's AT role.
