Dec 14, 2013 · The closest bullet weight to 162gr listed on the Hodgdon website with a max OAL of 2.800" is 160gr. Its almost 200fps slower in the shorter loading. These are the velocities I think you can expect from the 7mm-08 in the AR-10 platform with the 162gr load. They match pretty well with my results. 162 GR.

Feb 14, 2017 · When I built my 7mm-08 AR-10 I had X-Caliber build my barrel. Not saying that McGowen is better or worse, but that's what I bought. I ordered a 20" 8 twist heavy contour starting at the receiver with a 1.150, tapering through .950 to a .750 gas block and maintaining that size through to the threads. Rifle length gas system.

Apr 23, 2018 · The 7mm-08 is not a hard on the shoulder as the .308, though both are not bad. I did add the DPMS/ Jerry Miculek brake that and a 20" barrel both help. I actually bought a .308 upper a week before they came out with the 7mm-08 I still have that one, though it took a little work to get it happy.

Sep 13, 2016 · I would like to get some thoughts on 7mm-08. I am aware of the benefits of the 6.5s. I already have a Grendel AR and a Savage 260. I'm also not interested in a 308. If after my research the 7mm-08 doesn't work out I'll go with one of the 6.5s. Intended use: Semi-Auto for 1000 yard steel targets. This will be a heavy bench gun.

May 4, 2005 · Most factory 7mm-08 is in the lighter 120-150gr projectile weight range, not the heavier 162-175gr bullets I would be interested in. You can use an A5 or ArmaLite mid-length RET with a heavier AR-15 length carbine buffer in the 4.5oz region or more with a longer spring if you want a telescoping stock.

Mar 25, 2013 · I built an AR10 in 7mm-08 about 7-8 years ago, and the build recipe I used, has created amazing results. Cross Machine Tool Co. upper & lower 22” 8.5:1 twist rate X-Caliber barrel. Aero precision standard bolt, (no Lightweight parts to maintain mass in firing velocity), I used the DPMS style build. The accuracy is over the top.

Feb 5, 2019 · The 120 TSX might be able to be driven fast enough in a 7mm-08 AR to be worth it. It is long for weight (being all copper) so it still has decent BC and has astounding terminal ballistics. But, I agree with others that 7mm-08 is probably not the best long-range choice for an AR10 type rifle given the other options available.

Jul 26, 2017 · Looking to build another AR to hunt whitetail with. Currently using a 6.8 which is great, but can't hurt to have another option as well. Just wondering if anyone has any experience in a 7mm-08 platform in an AR. Seems to be a great all around round for whitetail and I'd rather build an AR then buy one in a hunting rifle.

Sep 29, 2023 · Not a small frame AR but my Aero M5 build with a Black Hole Weaponry 22" 7mm-08 barrel. It shoots 150gr Nosler BTs into a ragged hole group. Trying to get 150 gr Hornady ELD-X to work good with it. If the claims of Staball 6.5 powder are true then you can get real performance out of it. Use metal mags to get more room for longer loads.
