Well, yeah, I'd agree that Datsun/Nissan discontinued its hugely successful sports car and replaced it with a near-luxury coupe. In so doing, they sacrificed the value seeking driving enthusiast for a larger niche. This product change yielded higher sales. "Lots of the most mediocre cars in the world sold in big numbers." That's certainly true.

The '70s Japanses cars (RX-7 and Z) make a little more sense to me. When you can get to the '80s cars, the Japanese cars are a little cheesy. And when you can still get a nice 944 for $5000, why would you spend more than $2-3000 for a Japanese car? Other than maintenance costs, the Germans have them beat in almost every way.

Jan 22, 2025 · I believe it was also used by Chrysler's Turkish subsidiary in the 1960s/'70s. Fargo lasted in Canada until 1972 when Chrysler-Plymouth dealers began selling Dodge trucks instead of Fargos. We also had Ford trucks here badged as Mercurys until at least the late 1960s.

I'm looking for an affordable, domestic, older car. Since aging boomers have driven the late-60's/early 70's cars beyond my price range, I'm looking at 75+, probably up to the introduction of smog equip (I recall from experience as a kid that early smog stuff wasn't very efficient and took a big performance hit).
