  1. GMC 5.3 vs. 4.8L V8 — Car Forums at Edmunds.com

Ford seems to sell more small V8's than GM does and it's the way it probably should be. I have the 5.3L, but wish I had the 4.8L for economy. Couldn't get the 4.8L with the LT package. Tell you what - get the 4.8L and give me a call and we'll swap engines - serious!

Jul 29, 2011 · the bellhousing isn't different. they bolt up to the same trans that the 5.3 uses. it's ever so slightly different than an old school small or big block, but that's only because of the lack of alignment dowels, metric fasteners, the elimination of one bellhousing bolt, and a deeper offset from the crank flange than an old school V8.

Dec 13, 2016 · Sitting in my garage: - complete 4.8l LS - pair of aluminum 799 heads - Hot can and beehive springs - sedan intake and oil pan - really nice 6 spd Miata with Torsen, leather interior, and coilovers Total budget spent to date: $1400. Before recoup. I can easily recoup $1000. So, a nicely done V8 4.8L Miata for $400 total expenditure so far ...

Jul 31, 2011 · The new 5.3 has nearly the same displacement as the old 327, but with a longer stroke and smaller bore. Hot ticket would be to combine a cheap 4.8L motor, a used LS1 5.7L block and pistons. Bore and stroke would then be almost exactly the same as the old 327, but all aluminum and with the LS-heads from the 4.8L.

  9. Silverado 4.8 vs. 5.3? — Car Forums at Edmunds.com

I got off topic. The real difference between the 4.8L and the 5.3L is not torque or horsepower, but which transmission you prefer, since the 4.8L is the only way to get a manual, and a 5.3L is available only with auto. A 4.8L with an auto should be very close to the 5.3L. What it gives away in performance should be made up with economy.

  10. GM V8 Losing Coolant With No Apparent Leak w/183K - 2003 Tahoe

Often General Motors vehicles, with the 5.3L and 4.8L engines have come to us because they continue to lose coolant. Normally the owner has tried in vain to find the leak and sometimes, multiple auto repair shops have been unable to find a source.
