All North American game with the possible exception of Brown and Polar bear is just as dead when shot with much smaller, flatter shooting and lower recoiling rifles. My sons and I took three 35 Whelen (s) to Africa and used them with great success. One son used 250 Gn. Nosler Partitions, the other used 225 Gn. Nosler Accubonds and I used 225 Gn. Barnes TSX.

Oct 14, 2017 · 35 Whelen is a great round. I had one custom built on a pre-64 model 70 action but haven't had a chance to hunt it yet. As another option you might consider is a 338 Federal. Short action and easily fits in a smaller short barreled rifle with more energy than a 7mm mag.
