Longhorn Dam is a dam crossing the Colorado River in Austin, Texas, United States, where it creates Lady Bird Lake. Completed in 1960, the dam was built by the City of Austin as the last in a chain of Colorado River dams in central Texas begun during the Great Depression .

Jan 29, 2025 · AUSTIN - Earlier today, Austin Water crews responded to a failed gate at Longhorn Dam. One of nine Longhorn Dam gates which control lake levels failed in the open position while being inspected and repaired as part of a Capital Improvement Project. This caused the water level of Lady Bird Lake to fall to approximately 2 feet below normal level.

Through community engagement, a "wishbone" shaped bridge was chosen to connect the Ann and Roy Butler Trail at Longhorn Shores, Canterbury and the Holly Peninsula in Town Lake Metropolitan Park. The bridge will provide an alternate option to the sidewalk on Pleasant Valley Road and fill a gap on the Butler Trail.
