Aug 21, 2011 · It requires a witness to sign also. The notarial wording accompanying this, however, is confusing. It includes wording regarding the witness appearing before me and making oath they saw the grantor sign the document. In that case it appears the signature of the witness is being notarized. Can anyone give me any more information on this?

I notarized a loan modification agreement for a company in California and on one of the documents there was a signature line for a witness to sign. As a general rule, California doesn't require witnesses (e.g. on Deeds, etc.), so the only witnesses I keep track of in my journal are those used for identification, i.e. Credible Witnesses, which is required in CA.

Yes, your name must be in there as well as the title- notary public, however it has much more wrong with it than the simple item you mentioned.
