NGC 3628, also known as the Hamburger Galaxy[3] or Sarah's Galaxy, [4][5][6][7][8] is an unbarred spiral galaxy about 35 million light-years away in the constellation Leo. It was discovered by William Herschel in 1784. It has an approximately 300,000 light-years long tidal tail.

Mar 13, 2024 · NGC 3628 is an unbarred spiral galaxy viewed edge on. NGC 3628 is a member of a small interacting group of galaxies [1] known as the Leo Triplet [1]. The two other members are M65 and M66. The galaxy lies in the constellation Leo and is approximately 35 million light-years from the Earth [2].

Although the faintest and least well known of the trio, NGC 3628 may be the most interesting in the eyepiece. Smaller scopes will show it as a very diffuse, oval hazy spot. Instruments 8-inches or larger will begin to reveal the dark lane that cuts across this edge-on spiral galaxy.
