Aug 23, 2023 · It doesn't help that the anime cuts a lot of content that depicts some of Mello's atrocities (such as Mello continuing to threaten Soichiro's and Sayu's lives with the Death Note even after Sayu's kidnapping) but even the crimes that he still committed in the anime get a magical hand wave once people remember his sacrifice to stop Kira.

I like Mello more, because Near seemed like L 2.0 but less emotional. I mean, from what I know about the manga this isn't quite the case, and he gets more fleshed out, but I like seeing a more emotionally reactive person that's severely different from the previous main character than another quiet, intelligent type.

If Mello was L from the beginning, he would of figured/caught Light. L knew from the beginning that Light was Kira. But he couldn't do anything because there wasn't concrete proof.

If whoever killed Watari was trying to find information about how the infamous Kira operates, L wouldn’t want them to know of the existence of the death note, which would be dangerous as many people would want to get their hands on the death note.
