Nov 17, 2007 · "Luv ya" in my opinion is just a shortened "I love you". Therefore, (although I never say it), it would be used the same way as "I love you". But it depends on the person and personality and how freely that person uses the expression.

The reason I am so sure of this is because there seems to be a trend in American music where these younger singers are borrowing lines from popular 80's/90's songs and putting them in their songs.

I think it's very normal to say when you feel a love for a friend. I say that to some of my platonic friends often, especially if I do feel some sort of love for them. The ones I say it to are people I love like family and I know they appreciate it.
