Dec 22, 2023 · Love my 718, but one of the things I love about it is that it's basic. It doesn't have all the bells and whistles of the new radios so there's less for me to screw up. If you want those extra, then hold out for a different radio. The 718 is a very solid basic radio though, and meets all of my basic radio needs.

May 15, 2016 · ICOM IC-718 Transceiver. Icom in the USA did want to help at all and just sent me an attachment-manual and said “good luck!” So no ICOM purchase- never, never again! Here is the fault: When the audio control is advanced, there is only a mild hissing on the loudspeaker . There is no audio from actual stations.

May 28, 2018 · I have a question in regards to getting a PTT output out of my ICOM - 718. Here is the story: I've got an RSP1A SDR going to an MFJ 1708 SDR switch. I have everything set up except for the PTT input on the MFJ 1708. So if I set my output power really low on my radio and key the mic, I still get a big signal coming through the SDR.

ICOM IC-718: $650 Yaesu FT-891: $630 Alinco DX-SR9T: $566 Alinco DX-SR8T: $469 Of those models, the FT-891 has better DSP than all of them. Having owned the KX2, which I sold for the FT-891, I can say that I am very happy, so far. More testing in the field is required.

Apr 30, 2019 · The Icom 718 is loud too after a while but it comes back to a "normal' level very quick The 7410 goes to the maximum just 1 minute after operation. If I stop operating it stays in the maximum for a couple of minutes, then drops to a "medium speed" stays there for 5 minutes or so and then drops to a "lower speed" and stays .

Aug 18, 2009 · The IC718 It's a great little entry level radio and a great backup if need be, the wife and I have a IC718 with a SM8 desk mic and a Hiel traveler hook up, the radio is a little lacking on filters but overall it's good and have worked several DX stations with it, I prefer the FT450AT for all the features its a great little radio als, oh be careful on the 718 does not like static !!!!

Aug 5, 2021 · The Yaesu FT-991A or the Icom IC-7300, both great radios for the starting ham. Like it says.....For the new starting ham person,I would choose the Yaesu FT-991a,it's all there and more than you need in a all in 1 unit. I own Yaesu's,Icom's and Kenwood's,thay are all great radios and yes ,I like ALL of them for what it does and what my needs are.
