The 1972 39-episode Devilman anime mixes parts of the original manga with parts of Demon Lord Dante, which is an earlier manga that's sort of like a Devilman prototype. There is also an anime series for Demon Lord Dante that's not very good.

There was a theory that Violence Jack (another Go Nagai manga) was a sequel with a reincarnated Akira and whatnot, but it was dismantled by Go Nagai himself in an interview (though i think he noted he liked the idea).

Devilman Crybaby is a pretentious pile of poorly drawn, ultra violent overly gratuitous tripe written by a manic depressive that ends on the down swing of their condition. It tries way too hard to shock through the use of tired tropes and cliches involving typical trite Japanese anime base views of Christianity.

Amon: The Darkside of the Devilman, a later entry into the series, introduced the concept of time loops in the series thus making it possible every iteration of Devilman is part of the loop.
