Dec 29, 2024 · To this day my favorite d-pad is the Xbox Series controller d-pad, and I say that having owned a Mega Drive 6-button pad, Japanese Saturn pad and a Vita. Honestly, it doesn't even really come close.

May 27, 2018 · D-Pad unless the game has different move speeds based on tilt but most platformers don't have this. It is usually stationary or full speed and maybe a dash/run button. This means a button such as the pad is a bit more responsive for me.

Dec 25, 2020 · Hollow Knight was one of those games I would constantly swap between the d-pad and stick. I think I found the stick the most comfortable for combat but would switch to the d-pad for platforming.

Dec 30, 2024 · Assuming it's the same as a regular Series controller, it'll be the best d-pad I've found on any current controller. Only one I can pull off things like pixel-perfect wall jumping in Super Metroid with 100% reliability.

Jan 4, 2021 · The d-pad is great the controller in general is perfection. Decades of sticking to the same general design and improving. I think the next thing coming is WiFi though that may not make it to all of the controllers, probably sold separately.

Mar 14, 2023 · Every D-pad is bad in comparison to the Saturn D-pad, but Xbox D-pads have been pretty good since the Xbox One. Just the Series X/S D-pads will wake up the entire neighborhood with their clicking.

The last 2D platforming game I played with an analog stick was Metroid: Samus Returns and while I understand why (d-pad was used for extra abilities), I would have greatly preferred the d-pad for movement.

May 3, 2021 · The Vita D-Pad is one of the best D-Pads ever made with extremely clicky and responsive input but the console itself is not a controller so it's hard to recommend for most people.
