May 2, 2024 · Thanks, Lee - I did see that CAV. It's priced the same as a new build that will be custom-made to my specs (albeit with a 12-mo wait). Thus, I'm inclined to place a fresh order. Any views on the current CAV operation? The majority of the commentary here is from 2021 or earlier.

Aug 27, 2020 · CAV is being built in Cape Town in SA still, and yes they also still sell kits. Not in the same fashion as RCR I believe, as they sell you a 'roller'. My guess is the CAV is a bit cheaper to purchase, maybe a bit cheaper to finish but that'll depend more on what you are building and how much you are doing yourself.

Jul 18, 2005 · Since the first CAV space frames were essentially GTDs then the manual might be of some use in building GTD like cars which would encompass just about everything out there. It might be that one industrious person would like to go through and add pictures of his/her GT40 build and make a complete public domain style manual.

Oct 21, 2007 · For primarily street use, I'd stick with my CAV (early mono) and have another $15,000 in the bank, but, you can't go wrong with either. Sounds like you want a lot of power in your gt40. 500+ is a LOT of power in a 2,500lb car - don't let it get away from you.

Mar 21, 2013 · I still would drive it on the street on nice days as well as to the track. The car is a 5 speed monocoque with a 302 Ford Racing crate engine with a 4 barrel. It is owned by the original owner and only has 2200 miles. It supposedly has 400 hp. I might put a GT40 Weber set-up on it.

Jul 6, 2005 · CAV recognized this early on and did the mono mainly as a marketing thing I believe.The next cool thing they could do would be to make the roof also stainless steel as per original.Then they would have a car commensurate with the ERA car which is the next level in pricing and wait time.Soooo..
