That and the fact that he added all the badges and whatnot - well... it's just a counterfeit. That kind of business just sucks. If he were up front about it, say titled it 'REPLICA BMW, MADE IN CHINA' then it'd be ok.

There are places on the web that you can buy parts to make a bike very close to an R71, including the special looking lights and fenders. That said, someone with a bunch of actual R71 parts can build an R71 using a lot of aftermarket parts and a Chinese frame. Still, buyer beware.

Feb 1, 2011 · The K-750 was designed in 1951 with rear swingarm suspension, five years before BMW used a rear swingarm. When Dnepr made a 2WD, it was a swingarm as well, unlike BMW who could only engineer theirs onto a hardtail. The sidecars were swingarm sprung as well, unlike BMW who used leaf springs or no suspension at all on their sidecars.

As for the engine, some parts are virtually identical to an R71, some are off the shelf Harley parts, and some are a mix using standard Harley tech from the period blended with the requirements of the new to Harley design.

Nov 29, 2020 · The BMW is much easier to get parts for and is a more reliable engine. What I know about doing this swap is that the engine will bolt into the frame without modifications. The hard to access oil filter on the BMW (when in a slash five frame) becomes impossible to access when in the Dnepr frame.
