Nov 3, 2021 · It's reactive AWD, so it's basically 99% FWD, then when the system detects slip up front, it sends up to 50% to the back. So, in situations where your front tires are spinning a lot (heavy snow), it's basically the same as AWD, since it works really well and I've yet to get stuck. You feel it though, compared to other cars that are full time AWD.

It's more direct, rewarding, and playful to drive a RWD car. I actually prefer FWD over AWD. The added weight, complexity, and maintenance for AWD doesn't justify the marginal improvement in fun. Most AWD cars are heavily front-biased just like most FWD cars, so the braking and corner entry behavior is still undesirable.

It's become popular here because Americans think they need it for some nebulous "safety" and we get what they get. They tried to imitate the rear losing traction by putting more torque into it by having different gear ratios in front and back, and also front had a one-way bearing so it could rotate freely if the rear had traction.
