Nov 20, 2019 · Varget seams to be the fastest powder in the 7/08 and the most accurate I have found was with H414 but it gives up about 100 to 150 ft/sec in a standard 7/08. My most accurate load is 49.5 grains of H 414 .054 5 shots @ 100 yards with a 120 grain ballistic tip at 3010 ft/sec the Varget load ups the velocity to 3133 ft/sec with a group size of .071.

Feb 1, 2008 · I've been looking at the 7mm-08 as a fun gun to shoot but after looking at some of the best powders (velocity) and loads Hodgens listed. it can be a much more capable short action gun for taking large game at some medium to longer ranges. Mainly the 6.5starball powder and I wonder if RL26 or 23 can wake up the 7mm-08 like it does the Creedmore.

I would like to shoot the heavier .284 caliber bullets and the factory twist on the 7mm-08 I have will not allow that and anything over 140 grain it does not like.

Apr 20, 2022 · I've had a stainless 7mm-08 Tikka for about 10 years now. I'm pushing a thousand rounds through it and it is still deadly accurate. I've shot all kinds of powder and bullets combinations with zero problems. This rifle has counted for many critters on the ground. Using mostly 140 grain bullets (Barnes TSX), the farthest any animal went was 40 yards.
