Weymouth Awarded $100,000 for Clean Energy Updates through State’s Green Communities Program

Improvement of existing critical coastal infrastructure within one of the most vulnerable areas for coastal flooding in Weymouth. The project addresses several high-priority items identified in the Weymouth Hazard Mitigation Plan and Municipal Vulnerability Preparedness Plan (MVP).

Weymouth is the second oldest township in the Commonwealth, dating back to 1622 when it was founded as the Wessagusset colony. Renamed Weymouth in 1635, the Town was boosted in that year by the arrival of 100 settlers from its namesake in England.

The following timeline was developed with public information from the South Shore Historical Society, the Weymouth Historical Society, and the Town of Weymouth's 300th Anniversary Booklet.

Weymouth is on the seacoast, but it’s in a harbor that’s protected by island barriers and by the peninsula of Hull from ocean waves and storms. It was and is a good place to dock wooden sailing ships without worrying about having them dashed to splinters on the rocks.
