Governor Glenn Youngkin commuted the sentence for a former Fairfax County sergeant after he was sentenced to three years in prison on Friday for fatally shooting a man who was allegedly shoplifting.

Youngkin commuted the sentence Sunday night, writing that the three years of incarceration went beyond the state’s sentencing guidelines.
