The Bank of Canada will most likely trim its key benchmark rate by 25 basis points this week and is widely expected to offer an analysis on the impact of potential U.S. tariffs, economists and analysts said.

The Bank of Canada (BOC) has trimmed its key policy rate by 25 basis points to 3 percent, cut growth forecasts and warned Canadians that a tariff war triggered by the United States could cause major economic damage.

The central bank’s interest rate currently sits at 3.25 per cent, the top-line of the bank’s neutral range. In December, Bank of Canada governor Tiff Macklem said policymakers would take a more “gradual approach” to reductions of the policy rate moving forward.
