The report, based on data from the U.S. Census’ Current Population Survey, found just under 40,000 Nevadans are underpaid an average of $3,132 a year.

"Theft is theft, and before this Bill was law workers had to take up a civil case. Civil wage claims are difficult for any employee to initiate and often time consuming and expensive. Now workers can go to the Police and report wage theft as a crime.

The report says that over the last 20 years, employers — many times these are unregistered businesses or even homes where people work as cleaners or caretakers — the estimated theft from minimum wage workers amounts to more than $2 billion.
