TxDOT trucks have been treating roads with brine to combat the cold.

Houston, Texas, does, in fact, get snow. The Jan. 21 storm is proof of that. So, how does the city prepare for winter roads?

Fire officials are evacuating a mile-wide area around the truck crash at FM-1725 and Tyra Drive, near FM-3081. Drivers are being asked to avoid the area.

TxDOT says 400 crew members will assist with 24-hour operations throughout the winter event to treat and monitor roads.

"It's a saltwater solution, and it helps prevent ice from bonding to roadways," Jeff Barker, a spokesperson for TxDOT, said of brine.
