AMD has confirmed that its partnership with Samsung is still on track, with Radeon-infused mobile GPUs expected in 2022 flagship devices.

AMD DNA is also present in Qualcomm SoC via the Adreno brand; it’s been 10 years now since AMD sold its Imageon handheld graphics division to the US semiconductor giant.

Back when AMD sold the Imageon mobile graphics business to Qualcomm, building high-performance graphics for very low-power mobile SoCs required a unique and specialized architecture.

Thanks to this new Samsung AMD partnership, we can expect Samsung Exynos chips to put a bigger focus on graphics performance going forward.

But dig deeper and you'll find the Adreno architecture is derived from the ATI Imageon tech Qualcomm bought back in 2006. So even Qualcomm hasn't created its graphics tech from scratch.
