Bird flu has infected nearly 70 people in the U.S., with one death, since last April. Most of those infections have been among farmworkers exposed to infected poultry or cows. The CDC report said the virus was found in three out of 150 veterinarians who were tested in September 2024.

Grocery stores and supermarkets have limited egg purchases, and some people have resorted to stealing in order to get their hands on eggs.

Bird flu has led to a wide variety of symptoms during recent outbreaks, including common flu symptoms like cough and vomiting. Many have also had conjunctivitis or pink eye as their only symptom, which experts suspect is from contaminated milk from cows infected by bird flu being splashed onto workers.
