Several parents who spoke to The Charlotte Observer expressed concern over what they say is a lack of transparency and accountability in the Mecklenburg Area Catholic Schools system. They also say that leadership is alienating teachers, ignoring calls for dual accreditation and pushing a more hard-line version of Catholicism.

Principal Lori Phillips will be resigning from the school on Friday, according to a letter obtained by Channel 9 on Tuesday.

The resignation comes amid a flurry of controversies in recent weeks due to the diocese’s recent decision to switch to a Catholic-centric accreditation system called Lumen, which prompted petitions and pushback from parents.
