After seizing the biggest city in eastern DR Congo, the Rwandan-backed armed group M23 was advancing south through a neighbouring province on Friday, as young men volunteered to fight against it alongside the struggling Congolese army.

Congolese President Félix Tshisekedi has vowed to restore government authority in the east, where Rwanda-backed M23 rebels have seized control of the city of Goma and are reportedly advancing south to take more territory.
