The Florida Python Challenge is held annually to raise awareness of Burmese pythons, an invasive snake, and the damage it has inflicted on the Everglades.

The Burmese python, a non native species to Florida, was first recorded in the Sunshine State in the 1990s. Its exact population size is unclear.

More than 900 hunters descended on the Everglades this year for the annual hunt that raises awareness about this invasive snake species.
